Markosia Company Information

Our business is built on a simple philosophy. We aim to improve literacy in the young, by using as many new and innovative methods as we can think of.

Books

The authors in our stable appeal to a wide and varied readership, with fantasy adventure books for children, and more adult-oriented books, such as risque tales of drunkenness and debauchery in the skies, and dark thrillers using modern-day terrorism as their theme. We aim to provide good authors with the opportunity to have their books published either by us, or by other mainstream publishers in the UK and across the world. We act as publishers and literary agents, and always aim to represent our authors and titles to the full extent of their potential.

Comics

Comics are a great medium for persuading reluctant readers into literacy, as the graphics keep the reader's interest, and the attention span required is minimal. Of course, comic are seen very much as a niche market, so we were keen to persuade mainstream bookstores to stock our titles, and to get our books into libraries, both of which we have managed to do. We also strive to give good talented creators an outlet for their talents, as artists, writers colorists and inkers.

Illustronovella

In late 2006, we published a book by GP Taylor, entitled "The Tizzle Sisters & Erik" - a ground-breaking mix of prose and sequential art that we call ILLUSTRONOVELLA. We decided to use this forward thinking format as kids have short attention spans when reading, so a mix of both styles keeps their attention longer. The graphics are not simply decorations, they actually move the story on, encouraging the children to read the text bubbles, as well as looking at the artwork.

We also are very aware of the problem of dyslexia, as it is a condition that affects a number of people within the company on a personal level. We decided to print the book on slightly tinted paper, as research shows that this is an excellent way to help dyslexia sufferers read more effectively.

We currently have plans to produce more books in this format in the near future, and many other publishers are taking a keen interest in our ideas.

The Future

We have many other ideas currently in the pipeline, some of which we are in the process of developing, some of which are for further in the future. We have an EDUCATION section, which is looking at ways to get more authors and creators into schools (again to promote literacy), and we are working with education bosses at the highest levels across the UK and beyond. We have plans for a MUSIC department, promoting music literacy and general musicianship in schools, in addition to taking care of the musical needs of all of our titles. We have many other ideas, just waiting to be developed and explored

E-Commerce

We have developed our e-commerce system, with the introduction of the Markosia Shop, allowing individuals and bulk purchasers to purchase every edition, past and preent, of all of our titles.
